Description:
One of a pair of molded shell-shaped porcelain dishes with continous footrims and raised rims functioning as handles with underglaze blue stylized peony in the center surrounded five deep blue leaves and wavy deep blue border outlining the interior rim with blue cross hatched diaper border at the handle.

Description:
Tall beaker vase with flaring rim and slightly flaring base. Exterior covered in blue enamel. Decorated with orange and white enamel and gilding with white bands of orange and white abstract flowers with scroling tendrils. Border around foot consists of three-tiered gilded roundels and vertical domed rectangles. Interior decoration of detailed gold scrollwork with tassel border on white ground.

Gallery Label:
This vase is one of several manufactured at Sèvres in 1886 for presentation to various New Yorkers as tokens of appreciation for their participation in the ceremonies surrounding the unveiling of the Statue of Liberty. Chauncy M. Depew (1834-1928), who delivered an oration at the unveiling, received this vase from the French government. This vase is referred to in the Sèvres registry books as "Vase Cornet de o, 60m. fond bleu decor email...400 (francs)."
