These buckles belonged to Rufus King when he was ambassador to the court of St. James in London, 1796-1803. Rufus King was a lawyer and Federalist statesman. He married Mary Alsop, the daughter of a wealthy New York merchant, and moved there in 1786. He was a New York Assemblyman and also served in the legislature.

Description:
Silver gilt watch fob consisting of a ring with a watch key and a seal set with beveled citrine quartz; the ring has foliate design all around; the key has a ring bail and a clover shaped head decorated with grapes and grape leaves, the jaw is straight; the seal has a hollow finial bail with knop attached to the fob with the same design and shape as the key head, the base is ribbed with a floral border around the bezel.
