Blue silk Civil War regimental flag embroidered in various colors of chenille and yellow silk floss, with the names of some of the battles the regiment participated in, as well as their statistical details, printed in gilt throughout the ground, American bald eagle clutching olive branches and arrows with crest and banner, surrounded by thirty-four stars representing the states of the Union, inscription across bottom.

Gallery Label:
Colonel Alfred Gibbs led this regiment of the 1st New York Dragoons. He was later promoted to Brevet Major-General of U.S. Volunteers. Printed on the flag are the following figures for the regiment: 1,533 prisoners, 19 pieces of artillery, 21 caissons, 210 artillery horses, 40 army wagons and ambulances, 160 animals of draught, and 4 battle flags. Gibbs' father was a librarian for the New-York Historical Society.
