Gallery Label:
This structure at the corner of Broad and Pearl streets was erected in 1719 as a private residence by Etienne DeLancey. It later became a well-known hostelry maintained by Samuel Fraunces, and was the scene of Washington's farewell to his officers in December 1783 at the conclusion of the American Revolution. Hosier's view shows the building's appearance after the erection of two additional upper stories following a fire in 1852. It is now maintained as a museum by the Sons of the Revolution.

The Blue Bell Tavern was a noted colonial hostelry on upper Manhattan Island, standing on the west side of the Kingsbridge Road (now Broadway), just north of 181st Street. It was demolished in 1880 when the highway was widened, and the site is now covered by the sidewalk.
