This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.

Description:
Blue double-breasted wool groom's overcoat from a Coaching Club uniform with a fitted body and a full knee-length skirt; short pointed collar with an interior trim of blue and gold stripes; two rows of six round brass buttons; split up the back; one pocket at the waist; one vertical pocket inside the front; padded back; remained of interior lined with a black and white plaid wool; maker's labels at the neck and inside the interior pocket.
