Many buttons with negative slogans were produced by Wendell Willkie's (1892-1944) campaign in his unsuccessful attempt to defeat incumbent Franklin D. Roosevelt in the 1940 presidential elections. This slogan refers to Roosevelt's "Fireside chats" radio speeches that he gave starting in 1933, there were thirty in all by 1944. The buttons were produced on an almost daily basis in response to the latest news stories.
