Willcox & Gibbs Sewing Machine Co. was formed in New York during the late 1850s, and is best remembered for its highly successful domestic chain stitch machine. The earliest models were produced from the late 1850s, with production continuing until approximately 1940. Willcox & Gibbs entered the industrial market in the mid 1870s and eventually concentrated on industrial machines. They finally discontinued manufacture in 1973.
