Gallery Label: 
"Yale Mixture" smoking tobacco was advertised in various American magazines and university newspapers during the 1890s. This tobacco was noted for being "unequalled for delicacy and flavor." The very popular mixture was composed of Havana, Perique, Turkish and the finest Virginia selections. It was marketed by Marburg Bros., The American Tobacco Co., Successor, Baltimore, MD. The American Tobacco Company was located at 111 Fifth Avenue, New York. This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
