Set of wooden gameboards in the form of a low hinged wooden box with square top and bottom, sides covered in marbleized paper; on inside, backgammon board with center decorated with embossed floral border; on outside, chess/checkerboard with squares embossed on leather and outlined in red, blue, and yellow; sixteen red game pieces and fifteen black game pieces, wooden (possibly lacquered), also decorated with gilt motifs (such as a castle or crown) at center, representing chess pieces; also includes seven ivory dice and two leather cups.

Gallery Label: 
This object was once part of the folk art collection of Elie Nadelman (1882-1946), the avant-garde sculptor. From 1924 to 1934, Nadelman's collection was displayed in his Museum of Folk Arts, located in the Riverdale section of the Bronx. The Historical Society purchased Nadelman's entire collection in 1937.
