In celebration of Veteran's Day families will search through the Museum to find soldier-related objects, documents, and paintings. Learn about the Civil War Draft Wheel, compare American Revolution and Civil War muskets, and see everything a Civil War soldier had to carry up-close!

Kids will learn more about the everyday soldiers who have fought in America's wars, while exploring the New-York Historical Society galleries.

Vote for LaGuardia! Vote for Smith! Vote for De Peyster! Search high and low through the New-York Historical Society and DiMenna Children's History Museum to discover artifacts and documents related to mayoral elections in the city. Complete the scavenger hunt and collect your prize!

Meet the inspiring and brave African American leaders who helped shape our nation and civil rights legislation. Families will search through New-York Historical's collections finding objects and documents related to James McCune Smith, Pierre Toussaint, Frederick Douglass and of course, Martin Luther King Jr. Ages 6 and up
 

Friday – Sunday, November 29 – December 1, All day

Families will seek out images of light throughout the New-York Historical Society in this seasonal scavenger hunt. From New-York Historical's Louis Comfort Tiffany lamps to the treasures of Shearith Israel, find examples of light used for both decoration and symbolism.
 

The Civil War in 50 Objects Family Scavenger Hunt

In honor of the book The Civil War in 50 Objects by Harold Holzer and the New-York Historical Society, this hunt takes families on a journey around the Museum to find Civil War objects that tell amazing stories. Can you spot the shackles once used on an enslaved child? What about the models of Abraham Lincoln's hands? Print out the hunt here, and bring it in for one free children's admission!
