Description:
Gold silk cord aglet with brass clasp at the top; cluster of fringe at the clasp end; aglet has double cord with 3 adjustable silk covered beads; at the bottom are circular Turk's knots above metal tassels at the end of each cord.
Gallery Label:
This aglet was part of a military uniform worn by Lt. Col. George Stevens Schermerhorn (1835-1926), of the 7th Regiment, New York National Guard. The 7th Regiment was formed in 1847, and was known as the "silk stocking regiment" because of its socially prominent membership.
