Description:
Mahogany Empire armchair; scroll back with tablet with thin, inlaid brass border, a single rounded slat with rope-twisted center, and scroll arms on ring-turned arm supports; trapezoidal seat with textile upholstery; ball-and-ring-turned front legs and square, outswept rear legs with feet ending in casters.

According to the accession records, this chair originally belonged to descendants of Alexander Hamilton and later to the Holly family of Connecticut, ancestors of the donor.
