Description:
Oak chest with rectanular lid with applied half-round molding; front has three inset double-arched panels with molded surrounds and central applied drop; panels flanked by four sets of three turned and applied spindles; triglyphs applied above end spindles; paneled sides; straight feet have two grooves and are extensions of stiles; interior storage till (replaced).

This seventeenth-century Massachusetts chest exhibits a number of restorations, including later spindles and triglyphs, lid, and till. The double arch design is characteristic of chests made in Essex County, Massachusetts.
