Description:
Hand painted miniature on porcelain, depicting mother and child, set in oval frame carved in relief in grape bunch and grape vine garland design; hinged metal pin and clasp fastener at center reverse.
Gallery Label:
This brooch belonged to Maria Mitchell (Mrs. Mathew McDowell), who purchased it in France around 1856. Mrs. McDowell lived in Wayne Steuben County, New York.
