Description:
Hammered and pierced buckle or belt tip in pointed bracket form with inner outline of crest depicting eagle devouring a crane. Surface of crest is engraved with feather details and that of bracket has motto rendered in block letters: "EXITUS-IN DUBIO-EST-1775". Underside of piece has fastenings consisting of a partial hinge, located at right, and ring hook, located at left.

Provenance:
Piece may have been worn during the Revolutionary War by Capt. John Jordan of a Pennsylvania or Virginia Regiment. Jordan was also a charter member of the Society of the Cincinnati.
