Inscribed in Arabic in North African style along lower edge on separate piece of paper in brown ink (in translation): "This is the figth of Hamid with the Americans. The size of the American force was four frigates, a sloop-of-war, and four brigs or schooners. The battle lasted about five hours. June 1815."
