This tracing was taken from an engraving by Benjamin Tanner (1775-1848) which was published as a frontispiece in The New York Times Magazine, or Literary Repository, September 1797. The descriptive text which accompanies the plate in the Magazine states that "The plate annexed represents a view of Kaat's Kill, in the state of New-York...The mountains in this vicinity...it is said, furnish many thing for the gratification of the curious."
