Description:
Child's maple Shaker side chair with tilting balls installed in sockets in the base of rear legs; ladder back with three slats and round stiles with acorn-shaped finials; trapezoidal rush seat; turned legs tapering slighly at bottom with two rounded stretchers in front and at either side, and one rounded stretcher in back.
Gallery Label:
This chair was used in the school room of a Shaker settlement in Enfield, Connecticut. It was purchased by the donor from the community in 1913.
