Description:
Bronze die-struck medal with obverse depicting allegorical face symbolizing forces of Nature that emerges from clouds on the horizon; beneath is nautilus shell with rippled sea water in background, flanked by branches of algae; all surrounded by border of fossil seaform design. Reverse shows nude male and female figures drawn by swirling motion of sea waters; legend around border: "OKEANOS [in Greek letters] -- VORTEX OF BEING -- WELLSPRING OF LIFE -- HIGHWAY OF NATIONS -- SOURCE OF MUSIC AND SONG." Medal inset into clothbound book-style presentation case with gold embossed logo with portrait of Pisanello at upper right corner of cover and number "8" on upper section of spine; black monochrome woodblock-printed bookplate with initials "JMA" pasted inside front cover.
