Description:
Leather, brass, iron, and wood cartridge box; rectangular black leather box with one horizontal and two vertical loops for shoulder belt riveted to rear, iron buckles at bottom, an implement pocket on front, and double flaps with a strap on the outer flap that fastens to a brass stud at bottom of box; box contains wooden block bored with twenty cartridge holes.
Gallery Label:
This cartridge box resembles boxes made for use with the Model 1866 U.S. Breech-Loading Rifle, and boxes first made in 1855 for use with .58 caliber cartridges. It was formerly part of the Francis Bannerman collection.
