White metal struck medal with obverse depicting standing winged female figure representing Justice with sword in right hand, with her left foot on slain tiger; seated nude Indian warrior with arms tied back and shooting canon in backround at left; legend at right: "JUSTICE." Reverse contains inscription at center enclosed by laurel wreath: "DURING THE/SEPOY MUTINIES/A.D. MDCCCLVII."; surrounding legend: "DEDICATED TO THE BRAVE DEFENDERS OF OUR INDIAN EMPIRE."
