Description: 
Circular brass compass with flat lid.
Gallery Label: 
According to the accession records, this compass was used by Jefferson Davis, president of the Confederate States of America, while he was imprisoned at Fortress Monroe. Davis was captured on May 10, 1865, by Federal cavalry at Irwinville, Georgia, and imprisoned for two years in Fortress Monroe.
