Description:
Wood, steel, brass, and nickel revolver; nickel-plated brass gripstraps; roll-engraved naval battle scene; stamped marks on cylinder, barrel, trigger guard, frame, behind cylinder, and on buttstrap; leather holster with stamped marks on exterior.
Gallery Label:
This revolver was owned by Waldemar d'Arcy Rose, a career Navy officer who entered the Naval Academy in 1872, and by 1891 had been promoted to Lieutenant. The pistol and holster were probably issued to him in the mid-1870's. The holster is stamped by the Ordanance Department of the New York Navy Yard (Brooklyn, NY). The stamp reads: "ORD' DEPT./NAVY YARD N.Y./1870"
