Description:
Glass decanter jug with silver overlay, broken in two pieces; broken at the naming of the facsimile of Robert Fulton's steamship "Clermont" in 1909; decanter jug has stopper with pointed finial, three-way pouring spout, strap handle, and elongated bulbous body; all with silver overlay with engraved floral decoration.

This decanter jug was broken at the naming ceremony of the "Clermont," a facsimile of the steamship designed by Robert Fulton. The duplicate "Clermont" was launched July 10, 1909 at the Staten Island Shipbuilding Works for the Hudson-Fulton Celebration. This jug was filled with water from an old well on the Livingston country seat, "Clermont," by Mrs. Alice Crary Sutcliffe, great-granddaughter of Robert Fulton.
