Description:
Drape molded redware dish with slightly serrated edge; sgraffito and painted iron oxide and copper green decoration of a horse and rider blowing a horn and brandishing a sword; two tulips below; sgraffito scalloped border pattern; lead glaze.
Gallery Label:
Soldiers on horseback were a favorite subject of Pennsylvania German potters. Although the riders are rarely identified, they are often assumed to be George Washington.
