Description:
Colorless pressed lead glass plate with overall diagonal weave pattern and plain, slightly mounded circle at center.
Gallery Label:
Fragments of this pattern were found at the Boston & Sandwich Glass Company factory site; however, some dishes with this pattern may actually be later European examples, as they tend to look newer than most nineteenth-century pressed glass and show fewer signs of wear (see "American and European Pressed Glass in The Corning Museum of Glass," p. 90). George and Helen McKearin refer to this pattern as "Scotch plaid" (see "American Glass," plate 150).
