Description:
White linen summer dress coat (tailcoat) with a small rolled collar notched to join the lapels; single-breasted with a double row of five linen covered buttons; long sleeves with two buttons at the cuff; "cut away" at the waist with single pleated coat-tails at the back.
Gallery Label:
This dress coat belonged to Robert Hilton Arlenburgh, grandfather of the donor, who lived between 68th and 69th Streets, east of the present-day West End Avenue, from 1852 to 1870.
