Description:
Dark blue infantry Colonel's single-breasted dress coat; 1 1/4" closed stand-up collar (2 sets hooks and eyes), with "U.S." and 26th Regiment infantry insignia on each side near the throat; Colonel's shoulder straps with shield-breasted eagle against light blue ground; 8 black plastic buttons down the center which when buttoned are concealed; 1 3/4" black silk tape trim around collar and hem edge, and down each side of the center (when buttoned); closed false cuffs; 4 panels at the back of the bodice; lined with black twill-weave silk, horizontal slit pocket at the right breast, vertical slit pocket at the left breast.
Gallery Label:
This coat was worn by Robert Lee Bullard (1861-1947). Bullard served for 40 years as an officer in the U.S. Army. During World War I he was commander of the 2nd Army of the American Expeditionary Force. He graduated from West Point in 1885. As a 2nd Lieutenant he was sent to fight the Apaches under Geronimo. After retirement in 1925 he was appointed president of the National Security League. The Society owns the other uniforms worn by Bullard.
