Description:
Dress hat with dark blue wool crown with flat, circular top and black patent leather visor; metal insignia in the form of a shield surmounted by an eagle and superimposed on crossed anchors; chin strap made of gold metallic cloth tape with leather backing secured at either side by a button embossed with an eagle clutching an anchor.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, this hat was worn by the donor as a lieutenant (jg) in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Holloway's unform coat, trousers, overcoat, shoes, and other accessories are also in the N-YHS Collection.
