Description:
Pair of officer's epaulets; rigid, capsule-shaped strap with tab end edged with gold braid and pierced with a buttonhole; gold embroidered crescent with sequin trim; three layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring approximately 3 3/4 inches in length and 1/2 inch in diameter; padded yellow silk lining with linen strap fastener.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, these epaulets belonged to Caleb S. Woodhull (1792-1866). Woodhull served in the War of 1812 and was later Mayor of New York City (1849-1851).
