Description: 
Pair of commander-in-chief's epaulets; rigid strap with oak leaf and acorn pattern embroidered in gold on black textile ground, and small spherical brass button (missing on "a"); three layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring 3 1/2 inches in length and 1/2 inch in diameter; padded yellow silk lining with cloth tape fasteners.

According to the accession records, these epaulets were worn by DeWitt Clinton (1769-1828) while serving as Governor of New York and Commander-in-Chief of the New York State Militia.
