Description:
Pair of lieutenant's epaulets; rigid, gold lace-covered strap with gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle, the shield bearing the initial "A"; gilded brass crescent with circular stain inside, marking the location of missing insignia; two layers of gold bullion fringe measuring approximately 3 inches in length and 1/8 inch in diameter; padded red velvet lining and brass channel fastener.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, these epaulets were worn by Lieutenant Noah L. Farnum, who served with Co. B, 7th Regiment, New York State Militia. Farnum, who was ultimately promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, was killed at the Battle of Bull Run in 1861.
