Description:
Pair of black wool epaulets, with white cotton twisted cording and metal bullion around the shoulder end, button cast with "71" at the neck end; reverse lined with brown cotton, with a metal hook at the button end.

These epaulets are part of a full dress uniform worn by Noah Bruford when he served as a color sergeant for the New York National Guard, 71st Infantry, in 1898.
