Description:
Pair of lieutenant colonel's epaulets; rigid, gold lace-covered strap with silver embroidered oak leaf and gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle; gilded brass crescent with roll of gold thread embroidery around outer edge; three layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring 3 1/2 inches in length and 1/2 inch in diameter; padded red velvet lining and brass channel fastener.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, these epaulets were worn by a member of the 1st Regiment of the New York Volunteers during the Civil War. The silver embroidered oak leaf indicates the the rank of lieutenant colonel.
