Description: 
Pair of epaulets with black wings, twisted cotton cord fringe, a button at the collar end of each; buttons cast with eagle with a shield in its beak flying above a banner reading "N.Y.S.A." and encircled with "EXCELSIOR / NATIONAL GUARD"; reverse lined with brown cotton, with a metal hook under the button.

These epaulettes are from a uniform worn by L. B. Smith when he served in the New York National Guard. The Society also owns the other items which were part of this uniform.
