Description:
Pair of officer's epaulets; rigid, gold lace-covered strap with gilded metal button embossed with shield-breasted eagle, the shield bearing the initial "I"; gilded brass crescent surrounding circular patch with gold embroidered border and "13" embroidered in gold on red textile ground at center; three layers of gold bullion fringe, the outermost measuring approximately 3 1/8 inches in length and 1/4 inch in diameter; padded rose silk lining and elongated metal hook for fastening; in oblong black painted metal strorage with rounded corners, a hinged lid (now detached) with flat top and small wire handle, and fitted interior with blue velvet lining; oval compartment centered at bottom of box has top with a wedge-like addition on one side.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, these epaulets belonged to the donor's father, Benjamin G. Edmonds, who was a member of Co. E, 13th Regiment of Infantry (Brooklyn City Cadets). These epaulets appear in a portrait of Edmonds in the N-YHS Collection (1948.1).
