Marine view depicting the escape of the U.S. frigate, Constitution, from the British.
Gallery Label:
Birch painted this study for Captain Isaac Hull (1773-1843) who assumed command of the Constitution in 1810. Another small study of this painting is owned by the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
