Fibulae are a type of ancient safety pin style garment fastener brooch. They were used to secure togas at the shoulder in ancient times; after the Roman invasion of what is now England, the Roman Saxons and later the Celts adopted their use. This fibula was made during one of the ancient- and/or Celtic-revival periods of the late 18th and throughout the 19th centuries.
