Description:
Four comb black leather fire helmet with stamped border of stylized flowers, swags, and stars on brim; leather frontpiece holder (frontpiece missing); leather half-lining with drawstring closure.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, this helmet originally belonged to Frederick E. Gibert (1810-1882), grandfather of the donor. Gibert was foreman of Engine Co. No. 4 and served for years as fire warden of Manhattan's 3rd ward.
