Description:
Colorless glass footed salt with double-ogee bowl blown in a multi-part mold; with sheared rim, diamond patterning on bowl, knop with widely spaced vertical incisions, slightly sloping circular base, and pontil mark.
Gallery Label:
This form fits of the description of "chain salts" in a list of glasswares made in 1769 and the first three months of 1770, according to the account books of Henry William Stiegel. However, similar salts were produced in England. (See "American Glass, 1760-1930: The Toledo Museum of Art," pp. 183 and 780.)
