Description:
"Chasseur pattern" dark blue wool felt forage cap; black patent leather visor which is flat and somewhat rectangular; soft crown with circular, countersunk top with dark blue braid applied around edge; vertical strips of braid on center front, center back, and on either side of crown, joining horizontal strip applied 1 1/4" from lower edge; "7" between laurel(?) branches embroidered on front; black patent leather chin strap secured at either side by a gilded metal button embossed with initials "N.G." between branches of oak and laurel; brown leather sweatband and black silk lining.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, this cap belonged to a chaplain, probably a member of the 7th Regiment, National Guard New York. A related jacket was also given by the donor.
