Description:
Fragment of burgundy silk regimental flag with cream-colored fringe; carried by New York 40th Regiment in ten Civil War battles.

A manuscript note accompanying this regimental flag fragment lists the Civil War battles in which the flag was carried: "Williams Burgh, Fair Oaks, Charles City, Cross Road, White Oak Swamp, Malvern Hill, 2nd Bull Run, Chantilla, Fredericksburgh, Chansellorsvill (sic)."
