Description:
Bronze struck medallion with obverse showing bust of Friedrich Wöhler with surrounding legend: "IN.MEMORIAM.NATALICIORVM.XXXI.IVLII.A.MDCCCLXXX.FAVSTE.PERACTORVM." Reverse contains inscription at center, enclosed by laurel and oak wreath with three stars above: "FRIDERICO.WOEHLER./NATVRAE.INDAGATORI/SAGACISSIMO/DISCIPVLI.AMICI./COLLEGAE." Square light red-brown fitted leather case with purple silk velvet interior.

This medallion was created to commemorate the eightieth birthday of German chemist Friedrich Wöhler (1800-1882). Wöhler was presented a gold version by his students, friends and colleagues.
