Description: 
Blue wool double-breasted frock coat with a close-fitting body and a full knee-length skirt; high, wide split tab velvet collar, lapel and cuffs; woven button covers on the two rows of five buttons; angled pockets at the hips; lined with blue and black striped satin.
Gallery Label: 
This frock coat belonged to Francis Robert Rives, Esq., father of the donor. Francis Rives was Secretary of the Legation in London from 1842 to 1844, and was appointed bt president John Tyler.
