Bronze struck medal with obverse showing nude bust of Stuart facing left with legend: "GILBERT STUART." Reverse depicts female figure presenting laurel wreath to artist with sculptor awaiting his turn; legend: "AMERICAN ART-UNION."; date below "1848", all within beaded border.
