Description:
Crescent-shaped metal gorget with hole bored at each tip, with applied seal of the United States at the center.

A gorget is a military neck ornament. It was originally a piece of armor that protected the junction of the helmet at the breastplate, but slowly evolved into symbolic plates worn on the breast to show rank or position.
