Description:
Black felt hat with domed crown and wide, flat brim which has been stitched to crown on two sides, forming a single corner; yellow silk lining basted to inside of crown.
Gallery Label:
According to the accession records, this hat once had a black rosette attached on one side. The hat is similar in form to the "Pettibone Tricorn" (ca. 1776) illustrated in "United States Army Headgear to 1854" (p. 1).
