Description: 
Oval black felt patch with silver metal foliate "US" in center, flanked by gold metal wreath at bottom.
Gallery Label: 
According to the accession records, this patch was worn on a hat that belonged to Abner Doubleday (1819-1893). Doubleday graduated from West Point in 1842 and served in the Mexican and Civil Wars. He is best known as the inventor of baseball.
