Description:
Treenware inkstand composed of turned cylindrical body which can be unthreaded to reveal secret lower sand compartment; upper compartment is fitted with glass inkwell; threaded lid has urn-shaped finial; inkstand is covered in yellow varnish.

This inkwell was owned by Joshua Brooks (1773-1859) who lived at 403 Greenwich Street in New York City.
