Description:
Donor was the daughter of the sitter, a prominent land owner of upper Manhattan.
Gallery Label:
The subject's original name was James Frederick Dyckman Smith. When, as the principal heir, he inherited the Dyckman lands and estate of his uncle Isaac Dyckman (1794-1868), he took the name Isaac Michael Dyckman. His portrait was a gift to the Society from his daughter.
